Wondering what you can do with a stash of old wool sweaters? Make a recycled wool sweater poncho! It’s a simple and cozy design.
I work from home, and it’s hard to justify heating the house up to a comfortable level just for me. It’s not that I go without heat in the winter. In addition to two very warm cats (who occupy my lap on rotation), I have a space heater. But I still yearn for a slightly cozier existence. That is where this recycled sweater poncho comes in!
Reusing Wool Sweaters
I love reusing old wool sweaters. This typically happens after 2 to 3 years of wearing and washing them regularly. Either they get holes in the elbows or they have shrunk to a point where they don’t fit anyone nicely.
I’ve been collecting them and using them for crafts for a long time. Here are a few things I’ve made:
- French press cozies (both at our cottage and at home).
- Hot handle covers for our cast iron frying pans (many times).
- Oven mitts (to fit over an older pair of oven mitts).
- A very trendy baby sweater
This wool sweater poncho is my latest creation!
